ABOUT ME

DSC_0279.jpg

Hello, I'm Ryan Stevenson, a graduate of USC's Interactive Media and Games division, an instructor of game design, and an avid member of the Los Angeles fighting game community.

In games, I work on programming and design. I enjoy being able to create concepts and mechanics for games and being able to implement them as well. I focus hard on making movement feel as tight and expressive as possible. I find movement one of the most expressive aspects of interactive media; whether someone is speedrunning or discovering new mechanics in fighting games, nothing is as satisfying as fluid and responsive movement in games.

As a Unity Affiliate, I help set up and run Unity workshops. My time of teaching Unity and running game jams helps me create a variety of different workshops, and even led me to become a game design instructor at UCLA (disregard the school rivalry...)

My other passion comes with esports. I've been the manager of USC's Varsity Smash Bros team, as well as a key member of USC Esport's foundations. With the help of my peers, we took USC Smash Bros' scene from 10 players with no monitors to one of the most revered locals in Los Angeles, averaging 80 players with some of Southern California's best players in attendance!

You can also find out more about me through my GDC Talk in 2018 and 2019 about growing the collegiate eSports scene!
